AP Green Executive Committee Chairperson, Hon'ble MLC Sri Konidela Naga Babu, visited the Community Based Sea Turtle Conservation Programme camp in Bapatla district — the Forest Department and TREE Foundation's community-based Olive Ridley sea turtle conservation effort, run under ITC Mission Sunehra Kal. The programme trains coastal villagers as a Sea Turtle Protection Force to guard nesting beaches through the Olive Ridley season.
Reviewed the full season's work as documented by the field team — beach patrolling, nest identification, collection and measurement of eggs, relocation into protected hatcheries, and the release of hatchlings back to the sea.
Examined a life-size nesting display showing how an Olive Ridley turtle lays her clutch in the sand and how the hatchlings emerge, used at the camp to teach visiting students and coastal families.
Went through the mangrove ecosystem exhibits covering the birds, fishes, crustaceans and gastropods that the coastal mangroves support, and reviewed satellite mapping of the mangrove and plantation cover along the range.
Met NCC cadets, scouts and school students taking part in the camp, inspected saplings raised in the Bapatla nurseries, and joined the students in planting on the coastal site.
Participated in the 'Vana Kshemam – Jana Kshemam' plantation drive at R.V.S.C.V.S. High School, Chilakaluripet, organized to honor Deputy CM Shri @PawanKalyan Garu's birthday.
Urged young students to not only plant trees but to make nurturing and protecting them a lifelong habit.
Emphasized that every sapling planted today is an invaluable gift toward building a greener, healthier Andhra Pradesh for future generations.

On the same day as his coastal field visit in Bapatla district, AP Green Executive Committee Chairperson, Hon'ble MLC Sri Konidela Naga Babu, planted two saplings at the plantation site. He filled in the soil around each young tree and watered it himself, joined by forest department officers, public representatives and local residents who had gathered at the spot.
Consistent with the message he carries to every plantation drive, the Chairperson stressed that the planting is only the beginning — each sapling has to be watered, protected and raised to full growth if the Green Andhra Pradesh 2047 target of 50% green cover is to be met.

AP Green is the Andhra Pradesh Society for Greening and Reforestation for Ecological Enrichment, a Government of Andhra Pradesh body. As Chairman of its Executive Committee, Naga Babu leads afforestation, tree-cover expansion and ecological restoration across farmlands, villages, towns, roadsides, canal banks, institutions and industrial land in Andhra Pradesh.
The Green Andhra Pradesh 2047 target is to raise the state's total green cover to 50% of its geographical area by 2047, up from about 23% forest cover today. Naga Babu has stated the goal is to take greening forward as a people's movement, not just a tree-planting programme.
Naga Babu was appointed Chairperson of the AP Green Executive Committee with Cabinet rank by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in August 2026 and assumed charge at Aranya Bhavan, Mangalagiri, on 28 August 2026. He was elected MLC to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council in March 2025.
Vana Kshemam – Jana Kshemam ("welfare of forests is welfare of people") is a mass plantation drive under AP Green in which Naga Babu, along with public representatives and citizens, plants saplings and promotes their long-term care, beginning with events at Chilakaluripet.
The Great Green Wall of Andhra Pradesh is a coastal shelterbelt programme that raises a continuous line of palmyra and salt-tolerant plantations along the shoreline to shield villages and farmland from cyclonic winds, sand drift and saline ingress. It is a community based Olive Ridley sea turtle conservation programme run by the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department and the TREE Foundation under ITC Mission Sunehra Kal. Coastal villagers are trained as a Sea Turtle Protection Force to patrol nesting beaches, relocate eggs into protected hatcheries and release hatchlings to the sea. Naga Babu visited the camp in September 2026.
